Description

The apparatus consists of a glass tube with one endhaving bell mouth entrance. This glass tube with bellmouth entrance is connected to a constant head watertank. At the other end of this glass tube a valve isprovided to vary the flow rate of water. The tank is ofsufficient capacity to store water. A capillary tube isintroduced centrally in the bell mouth for feeding dyefrom a small container placed at the top of tank,connected through polythene tubing. By varying the rateof flow, the Reynold's number is changed. This alsochanges the type of flow. Visual observation of dye(Thread) will indicate the type of flow, which can beconfirmed from the Reynold's number computed. Presentset-up is self-contained water re-circulating unit, providedwith a sump tank, inlet tank, centrifugal pump etc. Wateris pumped by means of centrifugal pump and passingthrough the inlet tank & test section, it returns back tothe sump which make the system re circulating type.Flow control valve and by-pass valve are fitted in waterline to conduct the experiment on different flow rates.Flow rate of water is measured with the help ofmeasuring cylinder and stopwatch.
