PRODUCT DETAILS
Francis Turbine is a reaction turbine, which wasdeveloped by an English born American Engineer Sir J. B.Francis. The water enters the turbine through the outerperiphery of the runner in the radial direction and leavesthe runner in axial direction and hence it is called a mixedflow turbine. As the water flows to the runner, a part ofpressure energy goes on changing into kinetic energy. Thus the water through the runner is under pressure. Therunner is completely enclosed in a air tight casing and thecasing& runner is always full of water. The present set-upconsists of a runner. The water is fed to the turbine bymeans of Centrifugal Pump, radially to the runner. Therunner is directly mounted on one end of a central SSshaft and other end is connected to a loadingdynamometer arrangement. The circular window of theturbine casing is provided with a transparent acrylic sheetfor observation of flow on to the runner. This runnerassembly is supported by thick cast iron pedestal. Load isapplied to the turbine with the help of loadingdynamometer arrangement so that the efficiency of theturbine can be calculated. A draught tube is fitted on theoutlet of the turbine. The set-up is complete with guidemechanism. Pressure and Vacuum gauges are fitted atthe inlet and outlet of the turbine to measure the totalsupply head on the turbine. A venturi meter withdifferential pressure manometer is provided to measurethe discharge of water through the nozzle of turbine
